When traveling out of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, passengers should be prepared for the following heightened security measures:
Vehicles may not park and wait curbside. Only immediate loading or unloading of vehicles is allowed on the curb.
Do not leave your vehicle unattended for any reason. Unattended vehicles will be towed immediately. Airport safety regulations are strictly enforced.
Parking citations will be issued for violation of these rules. If you feel that you have been incorrectly cited, you can file an appeal by completing a Parking Citation Appeal Form within 15 days of the infraction. The form can be downloaded using the following link. Download Appeal Form (pdf)
For customer convenience, a Cell Phone Waiting Lot has been designated on the south side of the airport loop road. Upon entering the airport from either the intersection of Plumb Lane and Terminal, or from Highway 395, vehicles should travel in the far right lane, and make a right turn into the Cell Phone Waiting Lot.
Once your party calls and indicates they have collected their luggage from Baggage Claim, please pull vehicle up along the outer curb and immediately load.
To help all airport customers, a free airport courtesy phone will be installed in the Cell Phone Waiting Lot that will allow drivers to page their parties to find out if they have arrived and retrieved their luggage yet. So whether customers own a cell phone or not, the Cell Phone Waiting Lot is a great option to avoid the front curb traffic and restrictions while picking up people at the airport.
Passengers should arrive at least 90 minutes before their scheduled departure time for travel within the United States. For international travel, passengers should arrive at least 2 hours prior to scheduled departure time.
Know the 3-1-1: According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) travelers are allowed to carry travel-size toiletries (3 ounce or less) that fit in one quart-size, clear plastic, resealable zip-top bag through security checkpoints. Travelers may also bring items, including beverages, purchased in the secure, boarding area on-board the aircraft.
Large amounts of prescription liquid medications, baby formula and diabetic glucose treatments must be declared at the checkpoint for additional screening.
In addition, please be prepared for the following:
All shoes must be removed before passing through the security checkpoint. Shoes will be screened along with other carry-on items at the checkpoint prior to boarding flights.
TSA personnel will be conducting additional random screening of airline passengers and baggage past the security checkpoint at boarding gates prior to passenger boarding.
The above regulations are in the interest of passenger safety and security and apply to all passengers traveling out of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Please bear in mind that security measures for passengers traveling to international destinations or passing through airports overseas, may be subject to even stricter security measures.
Please keep in mind that these security directives are subject to change without notice. For the most current and up-to-date information, the Airport Authority recommends logging on to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) web-site at www.tsa.gov.
Your patience and cooperation with TSA mandated procedures is appreciated.
